Ring Fern / Mātātā Fern (Paesia scaberula)

Price

$3.00

Ring fern, also known locally as mātātā fern, is a vigorous native ground fern that quickly forms soft, spreading colonies. Its finely divided, bright green fronds create a light, airy texture that works beautifully in forest margins and naturalistic plantings.

Well suited to open sites, track edges and regenerating bush, ring fern tolerates sun to part shade and thrives in well-drained soils. It is particularly effective for stabilising light soils and suppressing weeds in early-stage restoration areas.

Best for: Forest margins, regeneration sites, erosion control
Height: 60cm–1m
Position: Sun to part shade
Soil: Well-drained soils

A fast-establishing native fern that brings softness, coverage and ecological value to restoration and garden plantings alike.
