Pigeonwood (Hedycara Arborea) is an attractive small tree with a with dark green thick and leathery leaves with shallowly serrated edge and a red midridge. Trunk is clear for the first few metres before having numerous branches forming a round crown. Flowers are insignificant but fragrant, with male and female arising on seperate trees. The bright orange berries grow in clusters and ripens from November to May. The fleshy fruit of the berry is a favourite food of Kereru, the native pigeon. It´s a must-have for native plantings where bigger birds shall be encouraged to feed.

Prefers a sheltered site with plenty of moisture and good soil in semi shade/ very shade tolerant. Needs trees of both sexes for berries to be produced, so plant in clusters.

Rural delivery may incur an additional fee.

UNDERSTANDING PLANT SIZES
What Does PB Mean? We list plant sizes using terms like PB2 or Root Trainer, which refer to the container size. PB stands for “Planter Bag,” and the number equals the volume in pints (1 PB ≈ 568ml).
